PBL driving question

Hi guys and welcome back to my blog. I'm really excited to announce that our driving for term two is...  " What will the Future Ask of US". We have been looking into this question over the past two days. The first thing that we did was we got into groups of four and discussed what are the biggest problems today in our world. After that we went back into the middle and said our ideas and the groups who had the same ideas or close would put up their hand and the teachers would write down how many groups there was. Next we used a website that tells you the percentage of a robot taking your job. This was lots of fun and have you done something like this? SEE YOU LATER!

Week 7 Reading Task Blog Post

Hi guys and welcome back to my blog! This blog will be about my reading task for this week. What we had to do was we read two books then with a Venn diagram we put the similarities and differences of the text. As I have forgot the names of the books I'll just tell you what the stories are about. The first story is about a girl who is on holiday and she go's exploring then she finds a hut with two people in it. As she is in Fiji the people are in a native Fijian hut. The second story is about an orphan boy who lived near a beach along time ago. And he makes wood carvings. I think with my Venn diagram I did well and I liked reading both stories. Thanks for coming to my blog and have you ever used a Venn diagram?

Underground Soldiers

Welcome back to my blog. This blog will be about a story called "Underground Soldiers" by Mark Derby. 20 years ago a couple of school boys stumbled into a tunnel underneath a french city called Arras and they made an amazing discovery. This is the starting sentence of the story. Our task was to make a KWL (Know, Wonder, Learnt) chart and have five different things in each column. Here is my KWL chart.
I think that I did well and I liked doing the KWL chart because I've never done this before. Thanks for coming back to my blog and have you ever done a KWL chart before?

Violet Walrond

Hi guys! On this blog I'll be telling you about a book that I've been reading called Violet Walrond. If you don't know who she is she was an Olympic swimmer born on the 27 of February 1905 in Auckland NZ. What we did was we had a look at the title, images and subtitles as clues as to what would happen in the story. We used a website called padlet to put our predictions next to each other. Next we Started to build a prediction puzzle with our initial predictions. We then looked for more clues to confirm or deny our predictions. I found it really cool to find out more about a NZ athlete and how she got into swimming. I thought that the prediction puzzle was an enjoyable and different way to learn. Thanks for coming to my blog and have you done something like this about an NZ athlete?

Mata i Pusi

This week for reading I'm looking at a book called Mata i Pusi. It's about a Samoan girl and her name means Eyes of a Cat. We read the first paragraph and then made predictions about what would happen in the story. Here is a photo of my predictions on the left. I think it's a good story and that you should check it out! This concludes this blog and be sure to come back for more blogs soon! Do you make predictions when you read?

Lights, Camera, Action, Lets go!

Hi guys! I have officially done my drama! Here is my amazing video!

Sorry for the light and sound quality it was that time of day when the sun shines straight into your face. It was an amazing feeling going live and doing the drama in front of a little audience behind the camera. I think we set the bar high and we went even higher! I think that I spoke clearly and that our message was clear to stop discrimination. Thanks for coming back to my blog and has your school put some of your school work on YouTube? See you next term!

Diana Isaac

For a few weeks now the year 7&8 hub have been going in groups of about 10 to Diana Isaac. We have been doing board games, coding/ technology, baking, art and balloon sports. We were meant to only go once but I went twice. The first activity I did was board games but there wasn't enough board games so I just talked to some of the residents. The second activity was coding/ technology. We brought our Chromebooks over and showed the residents some coding or digital school work. I had lots of fun talking about stuff that happened in the residents life and also showing them some of my coding. Thank you for coming back to my blog. Has your school ever done something like this?

Week 9 Art

Hi guys! This we made art using google drawings. We made the art by taking a picture of ourselves and then using Polyline, we went round the outside of our face, mouth, eyes and nose and more things on our face, then we could drag it then make our face up again. Here is a video on how to do this. To the left is a picture of my final product. This was a fun little challenge and I would like to do more. Come back for more soon and has your school done something like this?

Winter Sport

Hi guys and welcome back to my blog. This week I'll be explaining winter sport. Winter sport is a sport tournament that has four sports. They are Football, Netball, Hockey and Rugby. I play Football. I'm in the St Francis of Assisi Magpies A Football Team. In our five games we have won 2 and lost 2 and drawn 1. The highlight so far for me is just playing football. I also like talking about football on the bus and doing bus karaoke. Thank you for coming to my blog and does your school do winter sport?

Breakout EDU

Hi guys! This week have done something called breakout EDU. If you don't know what breakout EDU is, it's a physical game kit and platform where students work together to solve various puzzles to open a locked box, similar to an escape room. We had 45 minutes to open the locked box and we completed it in less than 15 minutes but we still weren't the fastest group. Our breakout EDU was based around the wonder movie.

Bingo card

Hi guys and welcome back to my blog. Today I'll be telling you about our week 5 bingo card. This week we had activity's that we could do on this. Here is a screenshot of it.

In the middle is our priority. A maths challenge called stairs to squares. We had to answer all the questions and then make a video using screencastify. My favourite two were the top right and the bottom right. The top one was the we made a book using book track witch is a site that you can write a book then play prerecorded or recorded sounds or music. The bottom one was that we made a tour following a sports team, musician, ancient civilisation. Thank you for coming to my blog. And have you ever done something like this?

Teacher Strike

Hi guys and welcome back to my blog. If you don't know, the teachers have been striking for more pay and time to teach. The government know that there should be better pay but they do nothing. Another thing that the teachers want more resources for the kids who need more tools to learn. If you want to know more about this here is a website that will tell you about this. I think the teachers just want to be valued by the government to get better conditions when going to work. If you have different thinking's please write a comment and explain what your thoughts are!

Tech Term 2 2019

Hi and welcome back to my blog. This year I'm doing something called tech/technology. At tech the year 7's do Plastic, Cooking, Fabrics and Woodwork. And the year 8's do Cooking, Fabrics, Metal and Electronics. And this term I have been doing Plastic and we are going to make dice. So far we have got our acrylic cube and we have done the measurements for each hole. I think that I will colour my holes in with orange paint. Thank you for coming to my blog and come back for more soon. Have you ever done one of these things?

Speech

This week we have done speeches. Here is the starting paragraph of my speech.

We are all the same. I believe racism has killed more people than speed, heroin, or cancer, and it won’t stop till it is no more. Said Alice Childress . And in a primary school a kid said, “ Why  are you so dirty and brown, don’t you ever wash?” That was aimed at a 5 year old. Everyone might say something that is offensive and that transfers onto the younger students and kids even if we mean it or not.

And that is the end of my starting paragraph. Have you ever made a speech?

Cross Country

This week we have done cross country. As we start we all run straight and I start pulling away from everyone, but sadly I didn't have enough energy to keep it going so I started dropping positions. I got into the middle and I kept the pace there, I got my energy back and started passing people. It got to the last lap but I didn’t have enough energy to get into the top 5 and I came 7th out of 28. It was a good effort for me as we ran 3 kilometres and I'm not the best at long distance running. After that I cheered on the rest of my friends. When it got to the last bit of the year 5&6 I started marshalling (being a cone :). When I finished marshalling we headed back and finished eating our lunch. When we finished eating we headed back to school. And that concludes the end of this blog. Have you ever done a cross country run?

PBL groups and Art

This Week we made our groups and decided what we are going to do for our PBL. In my group there is William, Haaron and myself and we are going to make a drama about Racism and Religious Discrimination. The two main parts of our drama are Stereotypes and Story's from the world and our community. We are currently writing the script and invites will be out soon. Also this week we have made art based around discrimination. Here is my art.

On right there is a photo of me with a filter on. The website that we used is called LUNAPIC. We also used a website called removebg to remove the background. On the bottom left I have a cool quote. Then on the top left I have a picture of the earth then under that I came up with a few words to tell why I chose to put an earth there. It reads "This belongs to all of us. Not one race, gender, religion or people with no disability should own it. So that concludes week one at my school. Have you ever done something like this? Come back for more soon!
